Students at Baker Demonstration School accepted the annual challenge of completing a 3.1 mile run. The Baker 5K began in 2004 to challenge students’ mental and physical growth and as a culmination to Sneaker Week. On May 31 families and sponsors joined over 250 first- through eighth-graders at Wilmette’s Gillson Park to support Baker’s physical education program and youth health and wellness.

Baker’s Physical Education curriculum focuses on teaching students to live a balanced and healthy lifestyle. Students learn basic skills such as swimming, catching, throwing, running, hopping, balancing, and working as a team, as well as how to strive to do their personal best. The Baker 5K, when “little feet take big steps,” is an example of how children can tackle big challenges.
