On June 29, the gun buyback program, facilitated by the Evanston Police Department, netted 28 firearms, which included 19 handguns, 5 rifles and 4 shotguns. In addition, several persons turned in numerous boxes of ammunition.

Police reported that one handgun, which was reported stolen in Chicago approximately 17 years ago, was also turned in. As the program is amnesty based, there will be no further investigation concerning that handgun, said police.
