The Evanston Sidewalk Sale+Artwalk attracted shoppers, musicians, chess players and spectators to the downtown area on July 27.  Retail businesses set up shop outside on the sidewalks, where they offered shoppers summer discounts.

Crowds gathered for several activities throughout the day in Fountain Square. Passersby could choose to play friends and strangers at a game of skill on the life-size chess board; others chose to play on one of many regular-sized boards.

As strangers became friends over a game of chess, onlookers enjoyed the live tunes of blues guitarist Meisha Herron, followed by the Music Institute of Chicago SWAT Team singers, directed by Mike O’Mara. Bottle and Bottega provided guidance and assistance to painters; participants were able to paint a canvas to take home.

In addition to amazing deals at their favorite retailers, shoppers were able to purchase one-of-a-kind art from local artists set up along Sherman Avenue, where artists brought an array of hand-made and one-of-a-kind products, such as photographs, Chinese rice paintings, handmade jewelry and  gallery-wrap canvas paintings.
