Hevanston Gallery, “Just Above Chicago” at 529 Davis St., is hosting an opening reception on Oct. 18 from 6-9 p.m. for “perspective is EVERYTHING,” an exhibition of paintings by artist John Benedetto that will run from Oct. 18 to Nov. 30.

The gallery features original works by local artists as well as archival quality historic posters, handmade clocks and tables.

Artist/owner Steven Bialer says he opened the gallery recently as “an incubator for local artists and the community to come together. …  I want to create a space to house all my passions and interests, a welcoming center for a community of artists and collectors and curious folk.”

Exhibiting artist John Benedetto was born in Chicago in 1958 and grew up painting and sculpting alongside his artist mother, Ellyn. Starting at age 13, he received recognition for his works, including a scholarship to the Art Institute of Chicago. Mr. Benedetto is an intuitive artist who works in a variety of mediums and whose style draws upon introspection and emotions. Mr. Benedetto says of his vision, “It’s all about the journey, the search for understanding and perspective.” He says his works are metaphors for emotions and experiences.
