Volunteers from Evanston Lighthouse Rotary Club worked with Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and members of the ETHS Green Team on Sept. 21 to clean up Evanston’s Lighthouse Beach. Julianne Dieterich, Community Service Chair for the Evanston Lighthouse Rotary Club, reports that approximately 50 volunteers collected more than 140 pounds of glass and plastic bottles, food wrappers, cups, etc. The beach sweep covered the public beach area, adjacent dunes and woods, Noah’s Playground and the parking lot.

This volunteer event was part of the September Adopt-a-Beach cleanup which was organized by the Alliance for the Great Lakes and included shorelines in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin.

The Evanston Lighthouse Rotary Club meets Tuesdays from 7:15 – 8:30 a.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn, 1818 Maple Ave. More about the club’s charitable and service programs can be found at www.evlrc.org.
