Late yesterday evening, Dec. 12, Evanston police detectives with the assistance of the North Regional Major Crime Task Force charged a 22-year old man from Zion with first degree murder in the shooting death of Floyd Gibert,said Jay Parrott of the Evanston Police Department. The shooting took place last Saturday in the 2000 block of Darrow Avenue, he said.
The alleged shooter currently resides in Zion, Illinois. He formerly resided in Evanston. He was on parole at the time of the shooting. “The shooting is believed to have occurred from an on-going dispute between two rival groups that was fueled by some social media postings prior to the shooting last Saturday,” said Commander Parrott.
The man is scheduled to appear in bond court this morning.
