Sixth Ward residents found a water bottle filled with a liquid (likely ammonia or bleach) and aluminum foil pieces on their rear exposed porch, according to information from Alderman Mark Tendam. The item was diffused by responders from the Evanston Fire Department. Evanston police and detectives searched the immediate area for other explosive devices and possible witnesses.
These items have names like Draino bomb, cat bomb and McGiver bomb and can cause second and third degree burns and serious eye damage.
All residents are advised to immediately report any similar items by calling 9-1-1.
Most important the police stress, is that anyone seeing such a suspicious item should avoid any contact with it.
