Christmas activities have come and gone, transitioning to a New Year. Fortunate readers may have received some very useful items for their tackle boxs and boats. Those who received gift cards for their favorite tackle stores will have shopping trips in the new year.
Speaking of the New Year I can’t help looking back on 2013 for a few minutes and reviewing some of the happenings. This wasn’t my most productive year on Lake Michigan, but I was able to do quite nicely on both Busse Lake and Skokie Lagoons. I was very fortunate to make two trips this past summer to fish in northern Minnesota where I had some of the best fishing action I have had in a number of years; my largest Northern Pike (39″), numbers of Largemouth Bass over 4 pounds, and some real quality pan fishing with my family.
In 2014 I looking forward to a better year on Lake Michigan, at least one trip to northern Minnesota and a fall trip to the Florida coast to do a little “blue water” fishing. Two fishing shows coming up that should be very good are the Indianapolis Boat, Sport, and Outdoors Show in February, and the Chicagoland Boat & Fishing Show in Schaumburg in March (dates to be posted when confirmed). I am also going to be working with the Water Reclamation District on developing more and better uses for our rainwater runoff as well as commercial uses for our treated waste water as an alternative to sending it downriver to the Gulf of Mexico and I will also be staying on top of the Asian Carp problem and hopefully the solutions that will be presented in the coming months.
All in all it looks to be a very busy and exciting 2014, I hope yours will be as well. Until next time…keep a tight line.
