Snow continues to fall over Evanston this morning. Overnight an additional 1.5” fell and it continues to snow. Forecasts are calling for an additional 3-4” more inches of snow before it ends This afternoon and evening.

Public Works crews spend the night plowing all roads in the city to provide accessibility but roads remain snow covered. The use of salt was restricted last night due to anticipated very heavy snow fall. That does not seem likely so crews will begin salting all streets as we continue to cleanup.

A Snow Emergency will go into effect at 8am today which means no parking on the even side of the street today and no parking on the odd side of the street tomorrow, Friday.

Operationally Public Works will be plowing and salting all streets today with the goal of clear roads by this evenings rush hour.

Additional updates will follow.

City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz added:

“Let me add to Jim’s message the importance of 311. Residents should call 311 with any questions related to the snow. Updates are also available on our website, @CityofEvanston and on Facebook.

“Also today we will be gearing up our sidewalk clearing campaign to encourage everyone to clear their sidewalks. With deep freeze on the way this weekend, all the snow will soon be ice only.

“My thanks to all City staff that worked over the holiday weekend and continued thanks for the work to come.”
