James Maiworm, assistant director of public works sent the following information just after 4 a.m. on Jan. 21:
As of 3:30am the heaviest of the lake effect has ended. Evanston received 6+ inches of snow in a short 4 hour window. White out conditions were experienced during the height of the snowfall.
Public Works crews are now re-plowing and opening the main roads back up. We will then make a pass thru on residential streets to allow residents to get to work and school. Extra crews were brought in to assist with the cleanup.
