The Evanston Ecology Center, in collaboration with Burt’s Bees and the Pollinator Partnership, is hoping to increase habitats available for pollinators such as birds, bees and butterflies this spring at the Ladd Arboretum, 2024 McCormick Blvd.
From now until April, Burt’s Bees will donate five plants to the Ecology Center for every Burt’s Bees Lip Balm purchased from the Net Zero Walgreens located at 635 Chicago Ave.
The Ecology Center aims to fulfill its goal of providing 5,000 new plants that will increase community education and awareness, as well as provide thriving habitats. Maintaining a healthy environment for pollinators is vital: They contribute to the reproduction of 80 percent of all flowering plants worldwide and provide one in every three bites of food consumed by humans. Pollination from honey bees alone contributes $8 to $10 billion annually to the U.S. economy.
Contributions received from this campaign will be commemorated with a planting day in the spring. The dates will be announced soon.
