Three teams of ETHS students competed in the 2014 Chicago Regional Science Bowl competition, with one team taking third place at the Feb. 22 event.

The ETHS junior chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPEjr) won third place at the 2014 Chicago Regional Science Bowl competition on Feb. 22. Team members included Juan Villasenor, Daniel Franco, John Nikolai Lenney, Duncan Merchan and the team’s coach from Northwestern University, Edgar Vazquez.

“The entire game was a nail biter” said Michelle Vazquez, the team’s sponsor. “I am so proud of all of them.” Two additional teams of ETHS students also competed in the event: Rosa Palma, Tanya Tovar, Yamila Blake-Lazu and Jocelyn Morales who were coached by Michelle Carbo from Northwestern University; and Jasmine Abron, Carlos Fernandez, Carla Orduno, Alfredo Gomez and Victor Mendoza who, who were coached by Victor Lopez from Northwestern University.

ETHS is the junior chapter of Northwestern University’s chapter of Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers.
