 ETHS senior Noah Eisfelder took first in the state in Oratorical Declamation and junior Gayle Stamos came in seventh in Prose Reading in the recent IHSA State Finals.

Two Evanston Township High School students placed among the top contenders in the 74th annual Illinois High School Association Speech Contest Feb. 21 and 22 in Peoria. ETHS senior Noah Eisfelder was named state champion in Oratorical Declamation and junior Gayle Stamos placed seventh in Prose Reading.

Mr. Eisfelder also came in 13th in Humorous Interpretation. After receiving his medal for his first-place prize in Oratorical Declamation, he “flawlessly performed his speech for more than 1,000 people in the awards ceremony,” according to Nancy Schultz, head speech coach for ETHS. His speech was a TED Talk by Brian Goldman titled “Doctors Make Mistakes. Can We Talk About That?”
