Parker English blazed her way to a new school record in the 300-meter dash Saturday to lead Evanston’s girls track team to a 3rd place team finish at the Devilette Invitational meet hosted by Hinsdale Central.

With a winning time of 39.90 seconds, English wiped out the school indoor mark shared previously by Angie Foster (1985) and Shalina Clarke (2006) of 40.2. She also established a meet record for that distance.

English’s triumph was one of six first-place finishes for ETHS coach Fenton Gunter’s squad. The Wildkits counted individual wins from Shahara Mitchell in the shot put (38 feet, 4.5 inches), Miranda Dangerfield in the 55-meter dash (7.4), and Alexia Harvey  in the 55 hurdles (8.6).

Harvey combined with Grace Sarkor, Remy Amarteifio, and Crea Taylor to rule the 1600 relay in 4:11 flat. The 4-lap relay team of Taylor, Dangerfield, Latalee Lawrence and Jania Banks teamed up for a winning time of 1:25.40, beating runnerup Hinsdale Central by a full second.

Also scoring top five finishes for the Wildkits were Amarteifio, 2nd in the 55 hurdles in 8.9; Ashley Vesotsky, 2nd in the 800 in 2:27.9; Sarkor, 3rd in the 300 in 45.3; Lawrence, 3rd in the 55 in 7.5 and 4th in the long jump at 15 feet, 9.5 inches; and Genora Garcia, 3rd in the shot put at 32-10.5.

Evanston’s girls will close out the indoor portion of the season with invitationals Friday and Saturday at Carthage College and Lewis University.
