On April 27, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 1509 Ridge Ave., will celebrate “St. Mark’s Day – 2014,” its sesquicentennial Anniversary with Reverend Jeffrey Lee, Episcopal Bishop of Chicago, presiding during a special celebratory worship service at 9:30 a.m., with reception afterward.

St. Mark’s, Evanston’s oldest Episcopal Church, played a leadership role in the founding of St. Matthew’s, St. Luke’s, and St. Augustine’s, all located on the north shore.

Reverend Debra Bullock is the 18th rector of St. Mark’s.

Located in Evanston’s historic Ridge District, St. Mark’s has served as church home to many civic and community leaders, including the Reverend Deacon Joan Barr-Smith, former mayor of Evanston.

The church initiated a yearlong celebration in early December and has scheduled celebratory events through the end of the year.
