Evanston Police Officer Sean O’Brien was honored by Sam’s Club located at 2450 Main St., for his heroics last year, when, off-duty, he rescued a little boy from the Des Plaines River.

Officer O’Brien was recognized as “Officer of the Month” for April 2014, $500 to be donated to the charity of his choice.  He chose “Autism Speaks,” a national organization for helping research the cause, prevention and treatment of autism.

Officer O’Brien said he wanted to give back in a manner that could help the 7-year-old boy he saved on March 5, 2013. Officer O’Brien is shown with the monetary award for charity. Evanston Police officers and community members were present for the award.
