Evanston concluded the most demanding stretch of soccer games in the history of the girls program Saturday with a 5-1 victory over Lincoln-Way Central in the final round of the Naperville North Invitational tournament.
The Wildkits played an unprecedented 9 games in 10 days — and won 7 of those games. ETHS bounced back from a 1-0 tourney loss to Benet by erupting for 4 goals in the first 20 minutes, allowing head coach Maurizio Grillo to rest most of his starters the rest of the contest.
Eight minutes into the game, senior Morgan Muno scored off a touch from freshman Maia Cella. Muno also scored the second ETHS goal, working loose inside the box and assisted by Alex Berkley.
K’thya Point du Jour, Emily Midyan and Ryan Berkley also scored for the Wildkits.
Evanston earned the No. 3 seed for the Maine South Sectional tournament. According to pairings released by the Illinois High School Association, the Kits are seeded behind No. 1 New Trier and No. 2 Loyola Academy.
ETHS will open regional tournament play at Maine East on May 20 against No. 16 seed Maine East. Winner of that game will meet the Niles West-Maine West winner for the regional championship on May 23.
