Evanstonian Caroline Colianne has been chosen as one of the Aquatics Team members of the Special Olympics Illinois delegation that will compete in the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games, June 14-21, in New Jersey.
Ms. Colianne has been a part of Evanston’s Special Recreation program since 2006, training under Head Coach Leonard Woodson. Initially competing in track and field events at the Special Olympics Spring and Summer Games, Caroline later added aquatic events to her list of competitive sports. Her gold medal-winning performance at the 2013 Special Olympics Illinois Summer Games and completion of USA Games training requirements helped make her eligible to compete in this year’s games.
In addition to attending practice sessions with Evanston Special Recreation, Ms. Colianne attended a weekend-long training session with other members of the Special Olympics Illinois’ Aquatics Team in April. She will compete in the 100-meter freestyle, 100-meter backstroke, 100-meter individual medley and be part of a 4 x 50-meter medley relay team.
