Interim Levy Senior Center Recreation Manager Karen Hawk has been appointed Recreation Manager of the Levy Senior Center and the Evanston Ecology Center. In her new position, Ms. Hawk will manage programming, budgeting, marketing and operations at both facilities under the general administrative direction of Assistant Director of Community Services Christina Ferraro.
“Karen is a resourceful, skilled professional, and her proven ability to plan strategically will assist in continuing to identify and develop programming to meet the evolving community needs at each facility,” said Parks, Recreation and Community Services Director Joe McRae. “Karen’s extensive experience at the senior center and her background in nature center operations make her a perfect fit for this position.”
Ms. Hawk joined the City in 2003 as program manager at the Levy Senior Center. In 2013, she was appointed Interim Levy Senior Center Manager, responsible for overseeing the day-to-day programming, budgeting, staffing, rentals, fitness room and maintenance of the facility. Ms. Hawk began her career as Teen/Senior Coordinator at the Peoria Park District. She has a master’s degree in Recreation Administration from Aurora University, and a bachelor’s degree in Leisure Studies from Eastern Illinois University.
