On May 18 at approximately 8:50 p.m., a 23-year-old Evanston man was shot three times while standing in Elks Park, at the 600 block of Mulford Avenue, Commander Jay Parrott told the RoundTable. He was shot in the leg, the buttocks and the lower back. Other people were present at the time of the shooting, he said.

The man was transported by Evanston paramedics to Presence St. Francis Hospital. He underwent surgery, and on May 19 was reported to be in critical but stable condition, said the Commander.

The shooter was on foot. The Commander told the RoundTable that police have not yet identified the shooter and do not have a motive for the shooting. They do not know if the man who was shot was the intended target. “The investigation is continuing,” he said.
