Father Hernan Cuevas (right) of St. Athanasius Church accepts a check for $3,773.80 on behalf of the St. Andrew Bobola orphanage in Bangladesh. Father Cuevas’s brother, Fr. Melicio Cuevas, is the director of the orphanage. Students, parents, faculty and staff of St. Athanasius School in Evanston raised the money this spring during their Lenten Service Project through a variety of activities, including bringing a book sale and a Chipotle Day.
Presenting the check to Father Cuevas are school faculty members who comprise the school’s Service Committee (l to r): Coleen Sylvain, Colleen Quirk, Kelly Ryan, Kelli Handel, Nick Cannariato, and Marsha Byrne. (Not pictured, committee members Kelly Casey, Rene Delgado and Ann DeVries.) The money for the orphanage will be used for shoes, school uniforms and sports equipment. Submitted photo
