Five members of Evanston Township High School’s Community Service Club were honored by the Kiwanis Club of Evanston for their outstanding leadership and service to the community and to the high school. ETHS seniors Natalie Jacobson, Zainab Khan, Anna Nelson, Abby Seef, and ETHS junior Charley Rees were recognized in May.

More than 100 students are members of the ETHS Community Service Club, participating in different projects throughout the school year, including Earth Day projects with the Kiwanis Club. Members also examine the needs and goals of various community groups to help ensure the best use of funds when money is raised through service activities.

Kiwanis honorees spoke about their service opportunities and experiences such as a book drive for youth during the holidays and the high school’s annual Empty Bowl event, which raises funds for local soup kitchens and food pantries.

“The five students honored by Kiwanis have done a tremendous amount of work this year to involve so many other students in service activities,” remarked Mary Collins, ETHS Community Service Coordinator. “These students have learned that there is great satisfaction in doing for others.”
