On June 2, the District 202 Board of Education unanimously approved a 4% raise for Evanston Township High School District 202 Superintendent Eric Witherspoon, in light of his favorable evaluation.

Dr. Witherspoon has 25 years of experience as a superintendent, serving eight years as the superintendent for District 202. The Board stated it “is pleased to recognize the performance of Dr. Witherspoon” and noted that in the last school year alone, “ETHS has posted the highest ACT scores in the history of the school, achieved rankings in the top 2-3% of all high schools in the nation, and has had the highest number of students successfully completing advanced placement courses, while focusing on equity and success for all students.”

“I greatly appreciate the support and leadership of our school board,” said Dr. Witherspoon, “As a result of lots of teamwork in our district, we have had another great year at ETHS, where we have again achieved a balanced budget during challenging economic times; earned a Aaa bond rating, the highest possible rating; developed exciting capital improvement projects like new STEM science labs, a state-of-the-art student success center and a welcome center for parents/guardians; implemented freshman advisory study halls; planned carefully for 1:1 computing for all incoming freshmen; and even built a house as part of the geometry in construction course.”

District 202 Board President Gretchen Livingston commended Dr. Witherspoon for his tireless efforts on behalf of all ETHS students, stating, “Dr. Witherspoon’s positive outlook is backed by solid results and has led to an improved climate in the halls at ETHS. The Board is pleased to continue our working relationship with him under his recently renewed contract.”
