The District 65 School Board entered into a contract of employment with Paul Goren dated May 19, 2014, under which the Board retained Dr. Goren to serve as superintendent of the District for a little more than four years, extending through June 30, 2018. Dr. Goren’s salary is $250,000 for the period July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015. Under the contract, the Board has agreed to pay him at least that amount for the next three years plus any salary increase the Board determines is appropriate.
The Board also agrees to pay Dr. Goren’s pension amount to the Illinois Teachers’ Retirement System. If the pension amount is less than 10% of his salary, the Board agrees to pay the difference to a tax-deferred annuity for his benefit.
The contract provides that no later than Sept. 30, 2014, the parties shall establish School District goals and objectives, including student performance goals and objectives, for the 2014-15 school year. The goals and objectives shall be reduced to writing and be among the criteria by which Dr. Goren will be evaluated. In subsequent years, the parties will set goals and objectives by July 31 for the subsequent school year.
By way of comparison, former Superintendent Hardy Murphy’s base salary for 2012-13 was reported by the District at $214,115. In addition, Dr. Murphy reportedly received a housing allowance of $25,000, an annuity contribution of $39,611, a pension contribution of $22,215, and an automobile allowance.
