On July 2, 2014, members of the Evanston Police Department’s Neighborhood Enforcement Team (NET), accompanied by officers from the Cook County Sheriff’s Gun Unit Team, and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives executed a search warrant for guns in the 600 block of Grove Street in Evanston, said Perry Polinski, media relations for the Evanston Police Department. The investigation revolved around unauthorized possession of firearms and the revoked status of an FOID (Firearm Owner Identification) registry, he said.
Police recovered three handguns and two rifles along with approximately 1800 rounds of ammunition and other firearm related items and equipment, said Mr. Polinski.
A 53-year old Evanston man who was the subject of the search warrant was taken into custody and charged with Aggravated Firearm Possession without a Valid FOID Card and Possession of Ammunition without a Valid FOID Card, said Mr. Polinski.
