This August, Evanston/Skokie School District 65 will welcome Omar Brown as the newest member of the Board of Education. Mr. Brown will replace Eileen Budde, former Board Member, who submitted her written resignation, effective June 10.

The Board of Education invited interested community members to apply for the opening and interviews were held during the month of July.

“We received an overwhelming number of applications and are encouraged that so many community members feel passionately about the education of our students. There were many talented applicants and the selection process was extremely difficult,” said Tracy Quattrocki, Board president. “We are very excited to have Mr. Brown join us and look forward to working with him in serving the interests of all of our students in our extraordinary school district.”

Mr. Brown is an active member of the Evanston community, a dedicated parent, and a graduate of Chute Middle School and Evanston Township High School. As Vice President of Human Resources for the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), Mr. Brown is responsible for leading benefits, leave management, talent acquisition and human resources administration and operations. Prior to that, he served as the General Manager of Diversity for the CTA and as the Diversity Manager for the City of Chicago’s Office of Compliance and the University of Illinois Office of Business and Financial Services.

“I am interested in becoming a member of the School Board because I want to make a difference in the community and to provide a perspective and voice for all children,” said Mr. Brown when asked why he wanted to serve as a member of the District 65 Board.

For the past ten years, he has been active within the Evanston community as a member of the Chessmen Club of the North Shore, basketball coach with the Fellowship of African American Men (F.A.A.M), a steering committee member for the McGaw YMCA Achievers Program, and a member of the Y.O.U. Board. Mr. Brown resides in Evanston with his wife Tanya and their three children who attend Evanston Township High School, Oakton Elementary School, and McGaw YMCA Children’s Center.

The appointment of Mr. Brown will be voted on by the Board of Education at their Regular Meeting on August 18, 2014. The term will run until the April 2015 election.
