Beacon Academy, Chicagoland’s first Montessori-based high school, opened its doors for the 2014-15 school year on Aug. 25. In its first year of operation, the school will offer classes for ninth- and tenth-graders. The school is located in downtown Evanston at 622 Davis St. According to its website, Beacon Academy will focus on “experiential learning, interdisciplinary studies, and entrepreneurial thinking.”
The plan is to expand the school to include 11th and 12th grades and ultimately serve between 250 and 300 students. The school plans to draw students from across the North Shore and the north side of Chicago. RoundTable photo
