Evanston Fire & Life Safety Services fire companies responded to a single-family residential fire in the 1100 block of McDaniel Avenue on Sept. 16, at 3:50 p.m. First arriving companies found heavy smoke throughout the house with fire in a north-east bedroom of the structure threatening to enter the roof space. The alarm was upgraded to a Code 4; and a coordinated fire attack, with ventilation and search operations, found that the residence was empty. The fire was contained to the bedroom and part of the roof area of the house. At approximately 4:08 p.m. a call came for a structure fire in the 2200 block of Ridge Avenue. This is a multi-unit residential apartment complex. Evanston Fire McDaniel command was able to free companies to respond. Arriving companies found an oven fire which they were able to contain and extinguish. Evanston Fire paramedics also treated a by-stander at the McDaniel Avenue incident, who had fainted. This patient was given Advanced Life Support care (ALS) and transported to the hospital in stable condition. Three residents of the McDaniel Avenue incident will be displaced. The Red Cross and the City’s Victims Services are assisting. The residents at the Ridge Avenue incident will not be displaced. No injuries to any fire personnel. |
