Connections for the Homeless will host a fundraising luncheon at 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 8 at the Hilton Garden Inn, 1818 Maple Ave. Alex Kotlowitz, author of the book “There Are No Children Here” and co-producer of the documentary film “The Interrupters.” Mr. Kotlowitz will speak on the impact of poverty on child development and youth violence.

Paul Selden, executive director of Connections for the Homeless, says, “I expect that the stories Mr. Kotlowitz shares will be very pertinent to what is happening in Evanston today. The impacts of poverty are being felt more than ever, with the numbers of homeless children in Evanston’s public school system increasing from 340 in 2012 to 640 in 2014.”
