Run for your life! On Saturday, November 1, zombies plan to invade Evanston for the first time as part of the City of Evanston Recreation Division’s inaugural Zombie Scramble. The race will bring friends and family together at Butler Park, 2090 Grey Ave., as they try to complete the 2-mile or 4-mile course without becoming “infected” by the zombies by the time they cross the finish line at the Ecology Center, 2024 N. McCormick Blvd.

The goal of the Zombie Scramble is for participants to finish the race with all of their “lives” intact, which will be represented by flags hanging off of a flag football belt each runner must wear. Throughout the course, zombies will attempt to grab these flags as runners attempt to avoid them.

The event will consist of two races, the family-friendly scramble and an adult-only scramble. The family-friendly scramble is a 2-mile race for participants age 8 and older that consists of three challenge stops to be completed by teams throughout the course beginning at 5:30 p.m.  If one does not complete the challenge they must sacrifice a “life” of their own or a team member.  Completing the challenge will earn your team an extra “life.” The adult-only event offers the same excitement on a 4-mile course for participants 18 and older beginning at 8:30 p.m.

All community members interested in taking part in the Zombie Scramble must register by Wednesday, October 15. Registration for the event is $15 for participants ages 18 and older and $10 for those between the ages of 8-17. As part of the registration fee, all participants will receive a t-shirt and glow stick upon check-in on the day of the event. To register, please call 847-448-8252 or click here.

Check-in for each scramble will be held at the circle drive of the Ecology Center beginning at 4:30 p.m. Following the race, participants are invited to celebrate their great escape during the post-scramble party at the center with complimentary food, drinks and s’mores.

“Zombie” sitting will also be available for those participating in the family-friendly scramble with children ages 3-8 to enjoy crafts and activities while the race takes place. Staff will supervise children in the Animal Room of the Ecology Center from 5 p.m. until participants complete the scramble. Due to limited space, pre-registration is required by Wednesday, October 29. The fee to register your children is $5 per child. To register, please call 847-448-8252.
