The Evanston Police Department’s Traffic Bureau along with the Major Crash Assistance Team are investigating a pedestrian involved accident that occurred at the intersection of Lake Street and Oak Avenue on Tuesday, Oct. 7 at approximately 7 p.m., said Commander Jay Parrott of the Evanston Police Department.

The initial investigation revealed that a vehicle traveling eastbound on Lake Street had stopped at the intersection of Oak Avenue, and then proceeded after another vehicle passed through the intersection going northbound on Oak Avenue. At that time the victim, a female age 60 from Evanston, was struck, said the Commander. She was unresponsive at the scene and was taken by Evanston Fire Department Paramedics to Evanston Hospital in critical condition.  Unfortunately, the victim succumbed to her injuries on Oct. 8, said the Commander.

The driver of the striking vehicle, a female age 56 from Skokie, initially had no indicators of impairment or distraction and indicted that the pedestrian was not seen until impact, said the Commander. A full investigation is underway to determine if the pedestrian was located outside the crosswalk at the time of the crash.

No citations or charges have been filed at this time, said Commander Parrott.
