On Nov. 1, zombies plan to invade Evanston for the first time as part of the City of Evanston Recreation Division’s inaugural Zombie Scramble. The race will bring friends and family together at Butler Park, 2090 Grey Ave., as they try to complete the 2-mile or 4-mile course without becoming “infected” by the zombies before they cross the finish line at the Ecology Center, 2024 McCormick Blvd.

The event will consist of two races, the family-friendly scramble and an adult-only scramble. The family-friendly scramble is a two-mile race, beginning at 5:30 p.m., for those age 8 and older. Whoever does not complete the challenge must sacrifice a “life” of their own or a team member. Completing the challenge will earn a team an extra “life.” The adult-only event offers the same excitement on a four-mile course for those 18 and older, beginning at 8:30 p.m.

Evanstonians may wish to take cover – or register, at $5-$15 per person, by calling 847-448-8252.

Participants will receive a t-shirt and glow stick at check-in, which begins at 4:30 p.m. in the circle drive of the Ecology Center. After the race, participants are invited to celebrate their great escape during the post-scramble party at the center.

“Zombie” sitting will also be available for children ages 3-8 for those participating in the family-friendly scramble, beginning at 5 p.m. Pre-registration for childcare is required by Oct. 29.
