The Kiwanis Club recently recognized three fine arts scholars from Evanston Township High School for their involvement in the school’s annual musical presentation, YAMO.
The students were recognized for their contributions to the musical with a gift certificate, a book on leadership and a certificate commemorating the occasion. The award, named for the late Ted Van Zelst, is fitting as he and his wife, LuAnn, have been strong supporters of the arts. ETHS Fine Arts director, Nick Gehl, introduced the students.
The students include Hannah Kaplan, who has been involved in almost every aspect of the musical, including working with students are not music readers. Ben Founty perfected much of the transition music for the show and, as well, arranged and composed original works for the production. Emma Chanen is one of the two general directors of the show. Her duties include managing more than 100 students in a variety of tasks to make this another successful production.
