During the citizen comment period of the Oct. 24 budget meeting, a resident raised the possibility of electing the members of the library board. “Now that the Library Board has levy power, I believe the board should be elected,” he said, adding, “I would like this body to weigh in on this and move toward that.”

Alderman Ann Rainey, 8th Ward, referred the matter to the Rules Committee of the City Council. She said she thought that, since having Library trustees elected rather than appointed would represent a change in government, City Council would be able to place the matter on the ballot as a referendum question.
