Today, November 13, 2014, at about 9:02 a.m., Evanston Fire & Life Safety Services responded to 1880 Campus Dr. (Kresge Hall) for a report of a fire in the building.
Arriving fire companies found heavy smoke conditions in the building with a fire on the second floor, which was quickly extinguished and confined to the room of origin.
Kresge Hall is being renovated and welders were cutting pipe on the third floor. Embers fell through a pipe chase, igniting debris and aerosol cans in a room on the second floor.
Evanston Fire had a Code 4 fire response and worked closely with Northwestern University Public Safety and other officials to manage the incident.
All the construction workers were safely evacuated and there is no report of injury to them or Evanston Fire personnel.
