The City of Evanston reminds residents that the final week for yard waste collections in 2014 will be December 1-4. Yard waste is collected on residents’ regular refuse/recycling collection day, and must be placed in the City’s 95-gallon wheeled yard waste carts, or in paper yard waste bags affixed with a City yard waste sticker. Tree trimming bundles must also be affixed with a yard waste sticker.
Residents are encouraged to save money, conserve landfill space and recycle the earth’s nutrients by composting. For more information, see the Evanston Composting Guide or call the Evanston Ecology Center at 847-448-8256.
Residents are reminded to not rake or push leaves onto the sidewalk or into the street. Leaves can block the flow of storm water along the curb, and can form a mat over drainage structures, preventing storm water from entering the sewer system and causing flooding. Violations can be reported by calling/texting 847-448-4311. Special pick-up fees will be assessed by the City’s Public Works Department. Additionally, the usage of backpack-mounted and handheld gasoline-powered leaf blowers is permitted through Sunday, December 14, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. on weekdays, and 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekends. From December 15, 2014 through March 30, 2015, leaf blower usage is prohibited. For more information, visit cityofevanston.org/yardwaste or call/text 847-448-4311. |
