Evanston RoundTable writers, designers and staff garnered 14 awards in the “non-daily” category at the annual Northern Illinois Newspaper Association awards banquet dinner on Oct. 23.

First place awards went to Dick Peach for best sports columnist (for his column on Asian carp), Victoria Scott for best technology/medical story (for her article on the diaper pantry at First United Methodist Church), Larry Gavin for best news series (on the Evanston Cradle to Career initiative), and Larry Gavin, Mary Gavin and Nina D’Agostino for best website.

Ms. Scott also received an award for best business/financial/consumer story (Smith & Joan’s); Ms. Gavin received awards for best technology/medical stories (the polar vortex and the animal shelter), for best education reporting (Haven career day), and for best editorial (leggings and legs at District 65).

 Ms. D’Agostino received an award for best spot news photo (Dominck’s empty shelves). The RoundTable also received an award for best newspaper design; Ms. D’Agostino and Kathy Ade are the graphic artists.

 Mary Mumbrue received an award for best feature photo (blue ash trees), and Lynn Trautmann received one for best sports photo (ETHS boys basketball).
