Chiaravalle Upper Elementary students (4th, 5th and 6th graders) walked, carrying almost 800 diapers for their first volunteer shift at Bundled Blessings, a local diaper pantry. Upper El students have adopted Bundled Blessings as one of the local charities they will be working with this year. The students maintain a diaper collection bin in Chiaravalle’s west stairwell. Each month, a group of 12-13 students walk to the local church where Bundled Blessings is housed, and package diapers to benefit local family outreach programs.
The organizers at Bundled Blessings were definitely
impressed with our students’ display of responsibility and independence. Students demonstrated true Montessori values while they gracefully worked together toward a common goal. Their work included opening packages of diapers, counting stacks of 50, putting those stacks into baggies, closing and labeling the bundles. In the end, over5000 diapers were bundled in less than two hours. These bundles will help 100 Evanston families in need.
