“The fact that President Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, Vice President Biden, and other high-level officials were there to speak on the urgency of improving College Access and Success (CAS) underscores that educational attainment is critical to our country’s success. Maybe college is not for every kid; however, every kid deserves the opportunity to attend college,” says Evanston Scholars Executive Director Steve Newman.

Evanston Scholars is a nonprofit organization that improves college access and success for a diverse group of ambitious, underserved Evanston students. The six-year old program provides more than 250 hours of workshops, mentoring, college visits, ACT preparation and individualized college counseling to students lacking financial, academic, family and/or community resources.

“It was an honor for Evanston Scholars to be included in the national conversation,” says Mr. Newman.
