Pam Montgomery, manager of the lower-level parking garage at 1603 Orrington Ave., has been collecting donations of food and checks for the Greater Chicago Food Depository (GCFD) for approximately 20 years, the last 10 of which have been at the parking garage.

She said the building manager sent a notice to tenants in the building that they may drop off donations in the lower-level garage, and she began the collection process in mid-November.

This year she collected about 3,000 pounds of food that was packed neatly into boxes, loaded onto pallets and then loaded in a GCFD truck. Ms. Montgomery also collected checks made out to GCFD totaling about $5,000, and used cash donations to purchase food. In the photo above, Ms. Montgomery is shown with Antoine Lacy, an employee of GCFD who loaded boxes onto trucks.
