On Dec. 5 Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl, Alderman Peter Braithwaite and City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz attended the Evanston WestEnd Business District holiday luncheon, hosted by W. Jeff Jeffery, CEO of IRMCO.

District members brought generous donations of new books for the Reach Out and Read program of Erie Evanston/Skokie Health Center.

The Reach Out and Read program collects books for medical providers to give young children after each well-child visit. The providers not only make a gift of the book, but also advise parents to read to their children. Research indicates that, over the 10 typical visits during childhood, the vocabularies of children in the program are much greater than those of similar children not in the program.

Lisa Robinson, site director of Erie Evanston/Skokie Health Center, offered thanks “on behalf of Erie and the children and families who will enjoy them. Thanks to you we will be able to share the joy and benefits of reading with many more patients at our Evanston location.”
