At approximately 12:33 p.m. Friday, January 09, 2015, Evanston Fire & Life Safety Services fire companies responded to the 2500 block of Harrison Street for the report of an attic fire. This is a three story frame, single family house.


First arriving fire companies reported smoke in the neighborhood as they approached and confirmed a fire in the attic space of the structure upon entry. The alarm was upgraded to a MABAS Box Alarm to the third level. Fire companies from 10 departments in Division 3 responded to assist on the scene and also for station coverage. 

The fire was brought under control around 3:30 p.m. and the alarm was struck at 3:51 p.m. Fire officials will be investigating the cause of the fire. 

The homeowners who were at home and reported the fire; were having some work done at the time the fire started. They were able to safely exit the house and will be displaced due to fire damage. Assistance from the Red Cross was not needed. 

Fire companies rotated through the Rehabilitation Sector and also had the use of a warming bus. 

One firefighter was injured on the scene. He was transported to the hospital in stable condition.
