Discovery Education is hosting a series of professional development events at no cost supporting Evanston and surrounding area educators implementing the Common Core State Standards. During Discovery Education’s Common Core Academies, teachers and administrators will learn practical instructional strategies they can implement using digital media and other educational technologies to support the integration of the Common Core State Standards into classroom instruction.
Discovery Education’s Common Core Academy sessions include:
- Literacy and the Common Core Instruction in a Digital World (Tuesday, February 17): This session offers participants English Language Arts (ELA) instruction and assessment strategies that help develop digitally literate students prepared for college, careers, and citizenship.
- Teaching and Assessing Common Core Math in a Digital World (Wednesday, February 18): To promote mathematical proficiency among students, attendees to this session will explore the Standards for Mathematical Practice and their successful implementation with assessment strategies.
- Leadership Strategies to Support Digital Literacy and the Common Core (Thursday, February 19): This session offers participants practical leadership strategies to support their implementation of digital literacy instruction and assessment as well as standards for mathematical practice to prepare all students for college and career readiness.
The sessions will be held 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 17, 18 and 19 in Room S-214 at Evanston Township High School, 1600 Dodge Avenue.
