Zach Warhus and David Rivera-Kohr didn’t get the extended stays they’d hoped for at the Class 3A Illinois High School Association individual state tournament in Champaign.
The Evanston wrestlers both took early exits Thursday with losses in their respective weight classes.
Warhus was pinned by McHenry’s Cameron Pait in the consolation bracket at 182 pounds and was eliminated with his second straight defeat.
At 120, Rivera-Kohr held a 3-0 lead over Alex Preissing of Prospect with 66 seconds remaining in the match, only to suffer a 6-3 defeat that also ended his state bid.
Warhus and Rivera-Kohr will be back in action again on Tuesday at the Niles West Dual Sectional at 6 p.m. against top-ranked Oak Park-River Forest.
