On Feb. 24, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Evanston patrol officers conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle for minor traffic violations in the area of Howard Street and Asbury Avenue, said Commander Joseph Dugan of the Evanston Police Department. During the stop, a man who was a passenger in the front seat of the vehicle fled on foot westbound on Howard Street. Officers were able to apprehend the man just west of Asbury Avenue where he continued to resist officers and not comply with any verbal commands, said the Commander.  After taking the man into custody, police recovered a loaded Smith and Wesson .357 revolver from his waistband.  A check of the handgun revealed it to have been stolen in Chicago, said the Commander.

The man, 21-years old, is a resident of Chicago. He was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, a class 2 felony, and other offenses, said the Commander.
