Local employers are encouraged to participate in Evanston Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl’s Summer Youth Employment Program (MSYEP) job fair on Saturday, March 28 at Evanston Township High School (ETHS), 1600 Dodge Ave.

The event will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for employers; job fair attendees will begin arriving at 9 a.m.

Interested employers can register for the event online at cityofevanston.org/youthemployment, or contact Youth & Young Adult Assistant Program Coordinator Porschia Davis at 847-448-8049 or youth@cityofevanston.org. Community members interested in volunteering at the event can sign up at volunteerevanston.org.

In 2014, with the help of community organizations and local businesses, more than 500 Evanston youth secured summer employment through the program, with over 600 attending the MSYEP job fair. This year, Mayor Tisdahl’s goal is to provide 600 Evanston youth with summer jobs.

The City has already secured several commitments from local employers, but additional participation is needed to ensure youth and young adults in search of employment will be provided with job opportunities.

The job fair is open to Evanston youth ages 14 to 18 years. The program provides participants with up to nine weeks of entry-level work experience at community-based organizations, the City of Evanston, and in the private sector.

Employers interested in providing year-round employment or participating in the City’s salary reimbursement program should contact Youth & Young Adult Assistant Program Coordinator Porschia Davis.
