I am writing in support of Jonathan Baum’s candidacy for re-election to the District 202 School Board.  I have known Jonathan during his time of service on both the District 65 and District 202 Boards.  Jonathan is uniquely qualified to understand the need for coordination between both districts to provide students with a seamless educational experience, and works to ensure that ALL students have access to high quality educational opportunities. Jonathan is also committed to ensuring that all District 202 district programs are evaluated with fidelity and transparency.  The public always understands where Jonathan stands on issues, and he backs up his positions with facts and compassionate understanding of student needs.

Throughout his tenure as a board member – on both boards — Jonathan has always been an advocate for those students with special needs whose concerns are not always considered.  This is particularly important to me because I am the founding director of Evanston Citizens for Appropriate Special Education (CASE).  Jonathan has taken the time to understand the complexities involved in providing appropriate educational services for this vulnerable population.

Jonathan advocated for a badly needed revision of the District 65 Parent Manual to make the procedures and information about the special education process clear and comprehensive.  He has been responsive to the concerns raised by CASE about the need for effective, seamless and coordinated supports for students with mental health challenges.  In his service on the Park School Advisory Board, Jonathan has taken the time to understand the essential role Park School plays in the continuum of services available to students in both Districts 65 and 202.

Please join me in voting for Jonathan Baum for the District 202 School Board.  Early voting runs March 23 through April 4 and Election Day is April 7.
