On March 19, Evanston firefighters trained in live fire scenarios with other departments at the Skokie fire tower. Just a day later, on March 20, firefighters were called to a fire close to home – almost directly behind Fire Station 5 on west Central Street. Fire companies from eight departments in the mutual-aid area came to assist at the scene and to help with coverage at Evanston stations.

The fire was brought under control around 5:40 p.m. and the alarm was struck at 6:11 p.m. Fire officials will be investigating the cause of the fire, the Fire Department said.  Top photos, house fire on Harrison Street; bottom photos, fire training in Skokie.
