The Evanston McGaw YMCA will host swimmer Christine Magnuson, a two-time silver medalist in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China. The 2008 Summer Olympic Games, officially known as the Games of the XXIX Olympiad and commonly known as Beijing 2008, was a major international multi-sport event that took place from August 8 to 24, 2008. Evanston Community TV (ECTV) will cover Christine’s historic visit to the Y on May 9th , where Christine will meet with swim coach Michael Fleming, observe the Y’s swimming program, and meet and answer questions from young swimmers in the program. Also, some kids will get the opportunity to swim with Christine and show off their aquatic skills. The piece will air on ECTV Comcast channel 6 in June, as the sports and nutrition pilot episode for “Dietician’s Dialogue,” hosted by Jamie Portnoy.

A long-time member of the U.S. National Swim Team, Christine earned her Olympic medals in the 100m butterfly, and a matching silver from the 400m medley relay, setting American records in both. The Tinley Park, IL native owned the University of Tennessee school record in the 100m butterfly: her time of 50.70, from 2008, survived five seasons.

ECTV is a non-profit organization operating public access channel 6 for the Evanston Community. It provides a variety of camera, editing and studio classes; acting classes through Piven Theatre; and airs more than 60 member produced shows.
