Members of St. James Armenian Church, 816 Clark St. in Evanston, held a prayer service on April 24 to commemorate the 100th anniversary and honor the memory of Armenians killed by the Ottoman government from 1915 to 1918 during World War I. Last month Pope Francis termed the killings a “genocide.” The Turkish government has admitted to the killings but refuses to acknowledge there was a genocide or the scope of these events.
